About The Fyfe Family
It has been said that the Lords of Fife (the MacDuffs) were once responsible
for crowning the Scottish Kings and for that reason, they were not required to
swear allegiance to the King, but only to God. ...And accordingly Fife,
Scotland was referred to as the "Kingdom of Fife" and not simply Fifeshire as
is the case with other Scottish localities. We are Fyfe from Fife and from the
clan MacDuff, they say. It all sounds very romantic and far away. Some day we
hope to trace our scottish roots to those far away places and ancestors. For
now we are limited to what little we have documented below.
I've been consumed for the couple of years and loving every moment of it. My one
regret is not recording stories throughout the years from those now long gone.
That, perhaps, is the reason for the focus at the moment. I want my sons to
have some sense of their roots when it is their time to be interested.
I've been overwhelmed by the generosity and zeal of other genealogists. It's
been an extraordinary experience meeting those with common interests on all
the continents. Many thanks to John Gibson (Australia), Rose (Canada), Thomas
Black (Britian), and lastly, to my friends, who have had so many conversations
that started with "You'll never guess what I found last night..........".
